James is an award winning architect with 18 years experience working from Sydney's Inner East, designing Australian houses, renovations and interiors.

My architecture is characterised by contextual sensitivity, a minimalist approach reflective of the Australian ethos and experimental use of materials to create a textural richness.
Good architecture connects people and place. My projects seek this out through strong functional spatial planning balanced with thoughtful building detailing.
I believe part of living well is living in spaces that inspire our comfort and delight.
Architecture is the opportunity to make our lives richer and I believe that to be true whether it’s at home in the Australian landscape (where I was the fifth generation to grow up on the family farm in South Australia) or immersed in our cities and urban culture.
I’m currently enjoying mentoring with the Pinnacle Foundation and volunteering as a tour leader with the Australian Architecture Association.
I live and work in Surry Hills and am currently working on projects in Sydney, Greater Sydney, Adelaide, and regional New South Wales and South Australia.

With a working background spanning architecture and interiors in residential, retail and hospitality, I combine practical and creative approaches to deliver friendly, efficient and high-quality services. The same qualities I like to seek out in my designs.
Collaboration with clients is a cornerstone of my work. I like to engage with commissions throughout the entire project lifecycle—from initial design to completed building. My fee structures are designed to be flexible, ensuring a tailored approach that aligns with each project’s unique needs.

As a sole practitioner, I offer clear and flexible fee structures that provide direct access to my expertise at every stage of your project, ensuring value and clarity throughout. My services are often structured to include:
lump sum fees for stages with clearly defined deliverables
hourly rates for consulting, exploratory design, negotiated outcomes, and building contract administration.
