Irrigator’s Outpost
DA approved April 2022.
At one point, owned by the Ministry of Irrigation in South Australia, this house in SA’s Riverland has long been associated with the area’s irrigation and fruit growing. An article from the local newspaper describes the house’s original owner as building “himself a very comfortable stone house, and is sparing no pains to make it attractive.” (The Murray Pioneer, 7 May 1914)
These days, the house commands a lovely view over the grape vines from its original ridge.
The council approved design knocks down the existing 70s rear ad-on with new additions to accommodate new kitchen, dining and living areas, as well as a main bedroom, ensuite and robe. The floor plan of the additions is rotated at 8° from the original c.1904 house in order to retain an existing jacaranda tree, orange tree and established wisteria vine.
